The workshop

As a dancer, you already work hard. But effort alone does not always give you more freedom, nuance, or range. This workshop supports you in upgrading the way you organise yourself rather than pushing harder.

Through Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement lessons and guided improvisation, we build a richer internal map of connections that you can draw on in rehearsal, creation, and performance. You will leave with practical somatic tools to return to when you want more choice, less friction, and a clearer pathway from sensation to action.

In Feldenkrais work, 'smaller circles' does not mean smaller movement. It points to more refined organisation: clearer support, better timing, and improved distribution of effort across the whole self.

Alice Godfrey

Dancer, Performing Artist, Feldenkrais Practitioner

Alice Godfrey is a South African dancer and performing artist. She has worked with Netherlands Dance Theatre 1 and 2, and is an ongoing collaborator with choreographer Sharon Eyal's company S-E-D. Her independent work includes collaborations with saxophonist Ben Wendel, pianist Koki Nakano, ELAMOR for the opening ceremony of Palma Dansa at La Llotja, and 'Can't Sleepers' with Mariko Kakizaki commissioned by Dance Base Yokohama. In recent years, Alice has integrated her training in the Feldenkrais Method into her performance work and research, and now leads workshops internationally at the intersection of somatic learning and dance practice.

A simple plan

  1. Building new connections

Building new connections and concrete resources within yourself to support your dance artistry.

  2. Harnessing softness

Harnessing softness as a foundation for strength and range.

  3. Rewrite your habits

To rewrite the destiny of your habits - opening the portal to spontaneity.

  4. Greater sense of autonomy

Greater sense of autonomy and choice both in improvisational tasks and with which to address choreographic requirements.

  5. Exploring the malleability of listening

Exploring the malleability of listening, and putting your improved listening skills and mapped out sensibilities into dialogue with musical play.

General

What is Forest Lighthouse?

Forest Lighthouse is a centre for somatic and neurosomatic education in Brussels. We explore embodied learning through movement, perception, cognition, and emotional awareness. Our aim is to create the right conditions for learning so each person can discover and develop their abilities through direct experience.

What kinds of classes and trainings do you offer?

We organise workshops, regular classes, private sessions, and professional training programmes. These activities explore different approaches to embodied learning and movement, often with internationally recognised teachers and practitioners.

Who are the events and activities for?

Most activities are open to beginners unless stated otherwise. Somatic education is not about performance or flexibility. It is about learning through attention and exploration, at your own pace. If you have an injury or a particular condition, please let us know in advance.
