The workshop

Inspired by the courtship displays of birds of paradise — exquisite, fantastical, and ridiculous — this workshop explores what human courtship rituals might become in movement. Improvisation and composition, group listening, co-creation, and coexistence in space become tools for entering a choreographic game that unfolds like a performance.

Each participant creates a personal movement phrase: slow, precise, and charged with story. You may repeat it endlessly or borrow someone else's, awakening the instinct to imitate that connects us with other species. The studio becomes a field of observation where improbable, comic, and tender encounters can emerge — an infinity of links between bodies.

Please bring comfortable clothes and water.

Mourad Bouayad

Dancer, Choreographer, Gaga Certified Teacher

Mourad Bouayad is a Parisian dancer, choreographer, and actor. Coming from a hip-hop background, he finds in contemporary dance a space of freedom where he pushes the aesthetic boundaries of movement. A graduate of the CNDC in Angers, he joined the Batsheva Ensemble in 2017 under the direction of Ohad Naharin, deepened his study of the Gaga method, and became one of the few artists to teach it in France, notably at the Paris Opera. In 2020, he created Enhanced and For The Hungry Boy, presented at Le Centquatre and the Institut du Monde Arabe. He collaborates with Japanese pianist and composer Koki Nakano and choreographed the film Port de Bras. In 2024, he presents My Way at the Théâtre National de Chaillot with Edmond Baudoin and choreographs À l'Unisson as part of the Cultural Olympiad of the Paris 2024 Games.

Dance should above all remain a game, a space of freedom and joy.

What you’ll learn

  1. New movement tools

Expand your movement palette, refine your bodily awareness and your awareness of others, and reconnect with your animal instinct.

  2. Your own movement story

Create a short personal choreographic phrase — a few seconds of dance loaded with meaning — and share it inside a collective composition, like a courtship display.

  3. A performance experience

The workshop unfolds like a performance in the making: a choreographic game that organizes itself, where each person is at once performer, choreographer, and witness.

  4. Shared space, fresh discoveries

Dive into sensation, play, dance, and explore a shared space where each person's individuality serves the beauty of the whole.

General

What is Forest Lighthouse?

Forest Lighthouse is a centre for somatic and neurosomatic education in Brussels. We explore embodied learning through movement, perception, cognition, and emotional awareness. Our aim is to create the right conditions for learning so each person can discover and develop their abilities through direct experience.

What kinds of classes and trainings do you offer?

We organise workshops, regular classes, private sessions, and professional training programmes. These activities explore different approaches to embodied learning and movement, often with internationally recognised teachers and practitioners.

Who are the events and activities for?

Most activities are open to beginners unless stated otherwise. Somatic education is not about performance or flexibility. It is about learning through attention and exploration, at your own pace. If you have an injury or a particular condition, please let us know in advance.
