What is Functional Integration ?

When individuals face physical or psychological limitations, tailored Feldenkrais Method lessons, known as Functional Integration, provide a path to becoming aware of the unconscious habits and patterns that hold us back. By enhancing movement and self-awareness, you can begin to live more freely.

Oftentimes, when people come to Feldenkrais Functional Integration (FI) sessions, it’s because they’ve exhausted other options and are looking for a last resort. You might be struggling with persistent physical pain, limited movement, or postural issues that other treatments haven’t resolved. Psychologically, you may be dealing with anxiety, stress, or trauma that has manifested in your body. FI sessions offer a gentle, personalized approach to help you become aware of and address these deep-seated physical and psychological patterns, leading to greater ease and well-being.

When individuals face physical or psychological limitations, tailored Feldenkrais Method lessons, known as Functional Integration, provide a path to becoming aware of the unconscious habits and patterns that hold us back. By enhancing movement and self-awareness, you can begin to live more freely.

Who are Functional Integration sessions for?

Functional Integration sessions are for anyone seeking to improve their movement, reduce pain, or address physical and psychological limitations. They are particularly beneficial for those dealing with chronic pain, mobility issues, stress, or anyone interested in enhancing self-awareness and discovering new ways to move with ease and freedom. These sessions are adaptable to all ages and abilities, making them suitable for a wide range of individuals looking to explore their full potential.

What can we work on through Functional Integration?

The benefits of Functional Integration sessions extend beyond improved movement and pain reduction; they contribute to living better by fostering a deeper connection between body and mind. As you become more aware of your habitual patterns and unlock new possibilities for movement, you gain the tools to move through life with greater ease, confidence, and balance. This enhanced self-awareness can reduce stress, improve emotional well-being, and lead to a more fulfilling, resilient, and harmonious life.

How does a Functional Integration session unfold?

Awareness is key in Functional Integration sessions, where slow and small movements are used to refine your self-image and deepen your connection to your body. By focusing on subtle changes, you can improve coordination and achieve a better distribution of effort throughout the body. This whole-person approach encourages exploring reversibility in movements, ensuring each action can be performed with ease and without strain. Many strategies are employed to enhance movement efficiency, yet movement itself remains a means to an end: fostering greater awareness and ultimately living a better, more fulfilled life.

General

What is Forest Lighthouse?

Forest Lighthouse is a centre for somatic and neurosomatic education in Brussels. We explore embodied learning through movement, perception, cognition, and emotional awareness. Our aim is to create the right conditions for learning so each person can discover and develop their abilities through direct experience.

What kinds of classes and trainings do you offer?

We organise workshops, regular classes, private sessions, and professional training programmes. These activities explore different approaches to embodied learning and movement, often with internationally recognised teachers and practitioners.
